Sharbati Raw Rice
Sharbati rice is a popular variety of non-basmati, long-grain rice grown mainly in the northern regions of India, particularly in Haryana, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh. It is known for its soft texture, mild aroma, and slightly sweet taste, which is where it gets its name — "Sharbati" meaning "syrupy" or "sweet" in Hindi.
Though not as aromatic as Basmati, Sharbati rice is often considered a more affordable and versatile alternative. It cooks well with fluffy, separate grains and is commonly used in everyday meals, including plain rice, khichdi, and light pulao.
Sharbati rice is rich in carbohydrates and provides a good energy source. It is also gluten-free, making it suitable for people with gluten sensitivity. Due to its good cooking quality and lower cost, it is popular both in Indian households and in export markets.
